This Is The Day

My friend’s status on Facebook today: This is the Day. Very appropriate for what has been brewing in my head and heart. God is pursuing us! God! The Living God, Creator of the Universes, Almighty One, Life Giver. He wants what’s best for us. In a conversation with another friend, I told her what I needed to hear: “Staying where you are is good and might even be great, but God wants the BEST for us. You are settling. I am settling. We’ve been settling so long that we don’t even know we’ve settled for second (or third or fourth) best.”

Before that I’d read the scriptures that totally address this:

So don’t you see that we don’t owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There’s nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go! Romans 8:12-14 The Message

and

Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want. You’ve already put in your time in that God-ignorant way of life, partying night after night, a drunken and profligate life. Now it’s time to be done with it for good. Of course, your old friends don’t understand why you don’t join in with the old gang anymore. But you don’t have to give an account to them. They’re the ones who will be called on the carpet—and before God himself. 1 Peter 4:1-5 The Message

That pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? This is the day, now it’s time to be done with it for good. And here’s the finishing touch on His faithfulness:

But God’s not finished. He’s waiting around to be gracious to you.
He’s gathering strength to show mercy to you.
God takes the time to do everything right—everything.
Those who wait around for him are the lucky ones.
Isaiah 30:18

We ARE the lucky ones.
